President Jim Kohlmoos on the Resignation of U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige
"The members of the National Education Knowledge Industry Association (NEKIA) extend their best wishes to Secretary of Education Rod Paige as he prepares to leave the Department of Education. "Secretary Paige's tenure was marked by the passage of the landmark No Child Left Behind Act and the Education Sciences Reform Act. With their mandates for the use of scientifically based research, the two laws are moving American education into a new era of knowledge utilization in the classroom. NEKIA members have long advocated for evidence-based education as an effective vehicle for improving academic performance for all children and for closing the achievement gap. We are now gratified that evidence-based education is beginning to take hold across the country. "We hope the second Bush Administration will continue its commitment to evidence-based education. We wish Secretary Paige well in his future endeavors, and we look forward to working with his successor. We hope the next Secretary will strongly promote greater investments in research-based classroom solutions, accelerate efforts to translate research into meaningful improvements, and increase federal resources for technical support to states and school districts." ###
